My Training and Experience

I completed my undergraduate degree at Staffordshire University in Psychology and Criminology in 2004.  In 2010 I graduated from The University of Sheffield as a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, allowing me to practise as a Clinical Psychologist and register with the Health and Care Professions Council (the UK Regulatory Body for Psychologists and other healthcare practitioners).

Since that time I have undertaken further  study.  In 2017 I graduated from Teesside University with an MSc Autism Practice, giving me the academic foundation in supporting people of all ages with autism and autistic traits.  I am currently working on the MSc Clinical Neuropsychology from The University of Glasgow, and am due to complete this in 2025.  This course is helping me develop skills in specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment of a broad range of problems including epilepsy, non-epileptic seizure activity, brain injury, organic and degenerative conditions and more.

I have undertaken specialist therapy training in Dialectical Skills Therapy and Cognitive Analytic Therapy and have an excellent grounding in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from throughout my psychology training and clinical work.  I have completed accredited training to Level 3 in EMDR, a specific therapy intervention to address the consequences of trauma, and have undertaken further training in the understanding and treatment of trauma in children and young people.  I also gained a postgraduate certificate in Systemic Family Therapy from The University of Leeds in 2014, equipping me with the skills to provide assessment and therapy to families, couples, and other groups.

In 2012 I completed the MSc in Psychological Research Methods, allowing me to critically evaluate the evidence base in order to make decisions about the effectiveness of different psychotherapeutic interventions to address emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Since 2006 I have worked full time in the NHS in a range of posts supporting people of all ages (children, working age adults, and older people) with their emotional wellbeing.  I also have experience of adapting interventions to people from neurodiverse backgrounds including people with autism and ADHD, learning difficulties and disabilities, and those who have experienced brain injury.

In 2024 I successfully completed the ‘Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) Expert Witness Certificate’ in Family Law. The CUBS Certificate was established over 20 years ago, has been completed by over 2,000 experts and is held in extremely high regard by instructing parties.  Holders of the Certificate are able to demonstrate they have been appropriately trained by experienced lawyer-trainers and assessed and deemed competent to fulfill the role of an expert witness by one of the top law schools in the land.
